Dalhousie is situated in the city of Cape Girardeau, a community of approximately 35,000 on the banks of the Mississippi River in southeast Missouri. The city is about two hours south of St. Louis and three hours north of Memphis on Interstate 55. It is the largest community between these two major cities and has a regional airport as well. It is considered a retail trade center for the area, drawing customers from southeast Missouri and southern Illinois (approximately 100,000 people live within 50 miles of Cape Girardeau).
There are two hospitals, Southeast Missouri Hospital and Saint Francis Medical Center, both with 24-hour emergency services. Many specialists and professionals occupy Doctors’ Park, a 51-acre medical complex.
Cape Girardeau has private and public school systems, several occupying new buildings. Southeast Missouri State University is a regional-based public 4-year institution which offers a diversity of degree programs in both on-campus and online environments. The University offers the community exciting sports programs, enriching educational programs and theater, dance and musical performances.
The area surrounding Cape Girardeau has a wealth of entertainment choices. Nearby lakes offer a wide array of fishing, boating and camping opportunities. Hunters enjoy waterfowl migrating into the area in the fall and winter. The natural beauty of the rolling hills and river bluffs make the area highly attractive to visitors and those who call it home.
